Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, grated
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Directions

  1. Cream eggs and sugar until well blended.

Add vanilla and vinegar and mix well.

  1. Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and nutmeg.

Combine buttermilk and heavy cream.

  1. Add dry ingredients and buttermilk mixture alternately to sugar mixture.
  2. Put into a donut maker.

Drop into 375ºF. lard.

  1. Fry until brown on one side, flip and fry until the other side is browned.
  2. Remove to paper towels.
